Gentle Like Water: A path for the Selful Soul for Men

R300.00

Gentle Like Water explores selfulness, encouraging the reader to embark on a journey to their soul’s truth through discussions and exercises focusing on self-growth and reflections on the world.

  • Section One: Trust is the Creator is an invitation to an inner journey, asking the reader to take a step into the unknown of self-awareness;
  • Section Two: To be ego or not to be ego explores the notion of balance and finding the middle ground.
  • Section Three: The Spiritual is Political looks at the bigger picture issues and how the individual affects the collective and vice versa. Each theme is followed by a series of questions for the reader to reflect on. Furthermore, each theme, 30 in all, is followed by a “Try This!” reflection, encouraging the reader with simple tools to help with personal growth and reflection.
  • Section Four: The Selful Soul summarises what the journey of the selful soul is about.

Gladys has been working in the sector of human rights and development throughout her career. She was a student and trade union activist during apartheid and continued her activism through the work she did in adult education. She began her consultancy, Communicating Simply, in 1998 and continues this work, specifically focusing on writing skills facilitation and mentoring, writing on behalf of organisations (histories, educational materials, newsletters, reflection documents, etc) and evaluations.

In 2020, she started a new initiative, The Selful Soul, through which she offers tarot readings (focused on reflection and guidance rather than divination) on social media as well as socio-political content.

Gladys published Gentle Like Water: a path for the selful soul on Women’s Day, 9th August 2023 at the Durban International Book Festival. This is a revised edition of Gentle Like Water, aimed specifically at men, especially men of colour/black men. Gladys is halfway through the creation of a deck of reflection cards highlighting the themes in Gentle Like Water and is working on supplementary material to help people use the books in support of others, whether in organisations or groups of individuals concerned with their personal soul growth.
