One of the main reasons I set up Communicating Simply was to make story gathering and writing within organisations more accessible, relevant and relatable.
Through Communicating Simply I have supported many organisations with creating documents and publications that better reflect them and tell their story in an engaging, thoughtful and reflective way.
If you need to create a publication from scratch (research, interviews, focus group discussions) or if you need one to be revived or repurposed, I can help with that. I take publications through the entire process to final, edited, proofed and designed so that it’s ready for print or distribution electronically.
I offer:
- Plain language editing
- Organisational histories and stories of change: Many organisations struggle with writing reports and information about their achievements and struggles. Helping organisations write their histories and assisting them to document their stories of change and impact is one way of them honouring the work they have done.
- Process documentation to document important events and provide professional, appropriate documentation of the event.
- Publication development, including professional materials, such as educational materials, training manuals, annual reports, newsletters and more.
Writing ourselves; righting ourselves
Many organisational stories go untold because people feel like they lack the time and ability to write them. I assist organisations in telling the stories they want to share about their work through workshops (yep, workshops are still a thing) and one-on-one coaching.
There is a lot of soul growth and learning in the writing process – about ourselves, others, and writing itself. My processes include a mix of group/peer learning and sharing sessions as well as one-on-one help for individuals.
Let me be your guide
Many of us have a story to tell, share, or write about. Others require a safe space to unleash their creativity and chart their course.
This process consists of me holding space for you in a group of peers or alone to assist you in discovering your voice and the story you feel called to tell right now. It is about soul introspection and growth, as well as bringing you along in your writing process. As with all of the support I offer, there are no hard and fast rules. Instead, you will be guided and nudged through your process.
You may want to boost your confidence to begin a writing project; you may be far into a written piece and require assistance in talking through ideas; or you may simply want to write for your healing.
Allow me to accompany you on your adventure. My approach is always to listen (with my inner ears as well) to what you’re saying and feeling and to help you on this journey of soul development.
Evaluations and project management
Communicating Simply takes a consultative approach to evaluations and reviews, constantly checking assumptions and seeking appropriate guidance from the agency being assessed. We do this because we understand that, as outsiders, our knowledge and understanding of the context is limited and must be guided by those who work within it. The consultation is about respect, developing a deeper understanding and finding the most honest and fair conclusions.
Process facilitation
I am an experienced facilitator with grounding in community-based and trade union education.
Communicating Simply is part of a consultant network with dala! Consulting Services and Wordslice, and others, collaborating on a range of research, communications and facilitation projects for organisations in the human rights and social justice sector.
